Cleveland Indians claim Jayson Nix on waivers

The Indians are expected to make at least two rosters moves after today's game against the Phillies.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Indians, according to the Chicago White Sox, have claimed infielder Jayson Nix off waivers. Nix was designated for assignment by the White Sox last week.

The White Sox made the announcement via twitter.

The Indians are expected to announce the move after the game. They must also create space for left-hander Aaron Laffey, who will start the Friday night against Cincinnati. So there could be at least two moves made later today.

Nix was hitting .163 (8-for-49) with one homer and five RBI with Chicago. Last season he hit .224 (57-for-255) with 12 homers, 32 RBI and 10 steals in 12 attempts with the White Sox. He spent part of the 2008 season Colorado.

He appeared in 16 games at third base, three at second, two at short and one in the outfield for Chicago this year. Nix, 27, was Colorado's first pick in the 2001 draft. he was the 44th player taken.

He bats right and throws right.
