Beau Mills, Jerad Head and Josh Tomlin arrested for June 3 altercation in Akron.
PHILADELPHIA -- Indians minor leaguers Beau Mills, Jerad Head and Josh Tomlin have been arrested and charged with felonious assault for their part in a June 3 altercation in downtown Akron. The Akron Beacon Journal first reported the story this morning.
Mills and Head, playing for Class AA Akron, turned themselves in after an arrest warrant was issued. They appeared at Akron Municipal Court and were released on a signature bond.
Tomlin is pitching for Class AAA Columbus. The team is currently on the road and authorities are taking Tomlin's statement by phone.
"We're aware of it," said Ross Atkins, Indians director of player development. "We will have no further comment and our players will have no further comment. We'll let the legal process run its course."
The Beacon Journal reported the incident took place at 1 W. Exchange St. The paper said the victim suffered serious injuries due to the assault.
The criminal case was filed June 22.
Mills was the Indians' No. 1 pick in 2007. He's currently on the disabled list with a strained rib cage muscle. Brad Mills, Beau Mills' father, is the Houston Astros manager.
Head, 27, was signed as a nondrafted free agent in 2005.
Tomlin, 25, is 7-2 with a 2.70 ERA for Columbus. He was a 19th-round draft pick in 2006.
