Former top assistant for Mike Brown will join Monty Williams' staff with Hornets.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Mike Malone is regarded as one of the better young assistant coaches in the NBA, which is why he wasn't out of work for long.
According to a source, Malone will leave the Cavs after five seasons to join the New Orleans Hornets and new coach Monty Williams' staff.
Malone was former Cavaliers coach Mike Brown's top assistant and was the team's offensive coordinator last season. He was under contract for next season and the team hoped the next coach would consider keeping Malone on staff because of his familiarity with the team.
Assistants Melvin Hunt and Chris Jent are still both under contract with the Cavs and will be considered by the next head coach.
