Strongsville senior soccer player David Murrow has made an oral commitment to Akron. Murrow, a midfielder, said his decision came down to the No. 1-ranked Zips and Cincinnati.

“They both have beautiful campuses, but obviously Akron is the top program in the country and it’s always been a dream to go there,” said Murrow, who plans to major in business. “I really like the coaches.”
Murrow played club soccer for the Internationals, which is coached by Akron assistant Jared Embrick.

Eastern Kentucky gets Cvelbar:Beaumont senior setter Abbey Cvelbar gave her oral commitment to the Eastern Kentucky volleyball program on Saturday.
“I visited Clarion, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Eastern Kentucky and just loved EKU,” said Cvelbar, a Euclid resident.
“I’m going to play setter and major in chemical engineering.”

Schedule change: The Buchtel at Toledo Central Catholic football game will be played Friday at 7 p.m. and not Saturday as indicated on the schedules distributed by the Akron City Schools.
Eagles climb higher: Thanks to its 20-3 victory over visiting Cincinnati St. Xavier, St. Edward has climbed from 45th to 42nd place in the latest ESPN/Rise Fab 50 national poll, while Glenville stayed at No.4 and Cincinnati Colerain rose from 32nd to 30th. The Tarblooders remain No. 11 in the USA Today Super 25 national poll.
