Antonio Margarito has his mind set on upsetting Manny Pacquiao when they meet at Dallas Cowboys Stadium on Nov. 13.
However, the Mexican fighter found time to take a shot at Oscar De La Hoya last week.
Margarito felt De La Hoya, now in the promotional business under the Golden Boy banner, used his influence to get the California boxing commission to deny him a license.
Margarito’s career was tainted when it was revealed his hand wraps were loaded with a plaster-like substance in a losing effort against Shane Mosley in January 2009. Mosley was promoted by De La Hoya.
After a year off, the Texas commission granted Margarito a license for this bout.
“I don’t know what he has against me, I really don’t understand,” Margarito told reporters in Mexico. “What I do know is that he had a big influence [with the commission] with everything he said against me.”
Margarito, a former sparring partner for De La Hoya, said he won’t give up like the Golden Boy did when he failed to come out for the ninth round against Pacquiao in December 2008.
“This is the fight of my life, and Manny will be in for a tough night,” he said. “I won’t quit like De La Hoya did.”
