Tigers lead Indians, 1-0, through three innings.

Cleveland Indians beat Kansas City Royals, 7-1Jeanmar Gomez impressed manager Manny Acta with his poise during his rookie season with the Indians.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- This is a daily briefing of the Indians' 2010 regular season. The Indians play the Tigers tonight to start the final series of the season Progressive Field.

Progressive Field dimensions: Left field line 325 feet, left center 370, center field 400, right center 375, right field line 325.

In-game updates: The Tigers led the Indians, 1-0, through three innings.

Former Indian Jhonny Peralta had a two-out RBI single in the third off Carlos Carrasco.

Tigers righty Armando Galarraga allowed no hits and walked three.

Pre-game notes

Game 155: Manager Manny Acta said right-hander Jeanmar Gomez and infielder Jason Donald have been shut down for the last six games of the season.

Gomez has reached his innings limit, throwing 173 2/3 innings between Cleveland and Class AAA Columbus. Donald is still recovering from a bruised tendon in his right index finger that he suffered bunting a ball on Sept. 11.

"We're very happy with the progress Gomez made," said Acta. "At 22, he was pitching at Triple-A, and we weren't even thinking about calling him up any earlier than September."

Injuries and trades changed Gomez's timetable. He won his big-league debut July 18 against Detroit. In fact, he went 3-0 in his first four starts with a trip to Columbus thrown in for good measure.

He finished the year 1-5 in his last seven starts.

"He was pressed into duty and he handled it very well," said Acta. "It was impressive the way he handled adversity and bounced back after a couple of rough starts. He's still projectable. He'll probably gain more velocity once his body fills out. He just needs to work on his secondary pitches."

Gomez went 4-5 with a 4.68 ERA in 11 starts for the Tribe. At Columbus, he went 8-8 with a 5.20 ERA in 20 starts.

Donald was another player scheduled to spend the season at Columbus. Things changed when Asdrubal Cabrera broke his left forearm in a collision with Jhonny Peralta in May. Donald was promoted and moved to second base when Cabrera returned.

"Cabrera's injury forced us to bring him up here, but he kept his head above water," said Acta.

Donald finishes the season hitting .253 (75-for-296) with 19 doubles, three triples, four homers and 24 RBI.

Quick hits:

Shin-Soo Choo has 23 RBI in September. He's tied for second in the big leagues with Colorado's Carlos Gonzalez. Colorado's Troy Tulowitzki leads with 39.

Acta is having exit meetings with all Indians players this week before they travel to Chicago on Friday.

Quote of the day: "I'm not a big guy and hopefully kids could look at me and see that I'm not muscular and not physically imposing, that I'm just a regular guy. So if somebody with a regular body can get into the record books, kids can look at that. That would make me happy." -- Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki, from the Baseball Almanac. Next: RHP Max Scherzer (12-10, 3.40) vs. Mitch Talbot (8-13, 4.61) Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
