The OSU defensive back had six tackles in Thursday's win over Marshall

Ohio State's Tyler Moeller was named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Week today, a high point on the long road back for the senior, who will ask for, and has a good chance to be granted, a sixth year of eligibility after the season.

Moeller had a team-high six tackles in the Buckeyes' win over Marshall, along with a sack and a forced fumble. And he looked quick and comfortable playing in space as the Buckeyes' "star," the fifth defensive back when Ohio State went to its nickel defense, which the Buckeyes did all night against Marshall's offense. With Moeller, safety Jermale Hines and linebackers Ross Homan and Brian Rolle on the field, Ohio State had plenty of hitters who could also chase down ballcarriers in the open field.

Moeller missed the entire 2009 season after he was injured in a Florida restaurant last summer, his assailant later pleading guilty to punching Moeller. Moeller had two small holes drilled in his head to relieve pressure on his brain, and he sat out the year, returning to practice with the Buckeyes in the spring, but not enduring full contact until preseason camp in August.

Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson was named the league's offensive player of the week.

The Buckeyes host Miami on Saturday at 3:40 on ESPN.
