Clubhouse confidential: Trevor Crowe isn't confused. He's not goofing around and he still throws right-handed.

Nearly every day, however, the switch-hitting Crowe plays catch throwing left-handed. He makes about 20 to 30 throws a day that way.

"When I was 10 years old, Dave Roberts, one of my coaches, told me that if I was going to be a switch hitter, I should try to make my left hand as coordinated and as strong as possible. It helps me when I hit left-handed because that's my top hand and it keeps it strong."

Dave Roberts was the No. 1 pick of the San Diego Padres in 1972. He spent 10 seasons in the big leagues.

All for naught: The Indians had 17 hits Wednesday night but lost to the Royals, 9-7. The most recent time they had 17 or more hits and lost was July 30, 2009. The Tigers beat the Indians, 14-12, in 13 innings. The Tribe had 19 hits that day.

Stat of the day: Shin-Soo Choo -- through 120 games -- leads the Indians in batting average (.291), homers (14), RBI (58), on-base percentage (.389) and hits (116).
