BEREA -- Observations, opinions and some facts on Thursday's morning practice ...

 * Very nice throwing day by Seneca Wallace. Had a lot of velocity on a sideline out to tight end Robert Royal and put it right on the money. Also made a nice throw deep sideline to Syndric Steptoe, but cornerback Chris Chancellor climbed over Steptoe and wrestled the ball away.

 * Coach Eric Mangini said the first teams will play through the first half Saturday against St. Louis. That means more possessions for Jake Delhomme, but Wallace will get some time with the No. 1 team.

 * For what it's worth, Brett Ratliff got more work than Colt McCoy. Perhaps he'll get more playing time Saturday. McCoy mishandled a snap and did a lap.

 * Cornerback Gerard Lawson left the drills early in practice with an undisclosed injury. Also, rookie receiver Carlton Mitchell looked to hurt his left shoulder. Mitchell was in some pain and was escorted to the facility by a trainer.

 * Much of the work was devoted to exposing the team to what they expect from the Rams.

 * Mangini said that he expected the following players to return for the evening practice -- receiver Mohamed Massaquoi (hamstring), offensive tackle John St. Clair (undisclosed) and offensive tackle Tony Pashos (shoulder). With Shawn Lauvao still on excused absence, Billy Yates and Scott Kooistra worked against with the ones at guard and tackle. More than likely, they will start the game.

 * In an interview with Sportstime Ohio, GM Tom Heckert insisted there has been no setback with running back Montario Hardesty, who has not been seen outside with the team since training camp opened. Mangini said he was hoping that Hardesty (knee) could make his practice debut on Monday.

 * This evening's session is the last practice open to fans. It's also the end of two-a-days for players, but they won't be formally discharged from curfew and other camp restrictions until Mangini is satisfied.
