Could the Browns finish last in the NFL in offense again?

brady-quinn-tracy-boulian.JPGView full sizeBrady Quinn will be on his fanny in Denver, not Cleveland. But will a change in quarterbacks be enough to lift the Browns out of the offensive cellar?
Cleveland, Ohio -- In 2009, with Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson under center, the Browns averaged 129.8 yards per game through the air, dead last in the NFL. Quinn had a passer rating of 67.2; Anderson's 42.1 didn't even make the NFL's list because a quarterback has to average 14 attempts per team's games played.

The wonder isn't that the Browns won five games; the wonder is that in the pass-happy league, they won any.

But that was then, this is now. The Browns now are operating under a retooled offense. Gone are Quinn and Anderson. Gone is Braylon "Brickhands" Edwards. Now Brian Robiskie, Mohamed Massaquoi, Chansi Stuckey, Josh Cribbs, Evan Moore and Ben Watson will be targets for Jake Delhomme, Seneca Wallace, Brett Ratliff and maybe rookie Colt McCoy. It's GOTTA get better, right?

Well, maybe. Delhomme's passer rating was 59.1, beating out only Raiders bust JaMarcus Russell on the NFL's official list. Wallace didn't have enough attempts to make the list, but his rating was 81.9 percent. Not bad ... until you factor in two interceptions vs. three touchedowns, and five fumbles.

But let's not be downers. After all, even as Tara burned behind her, Scarlet knew that tomorrow is another day.
