Running back Jerome Harrison and linebacker D'Qwell Jackson look amply motivated on the first day.

BEREA: Observations, opinions and a few facts from the Browns' first practice of training camp ...
* Judging from one practice and interviews with both, there is no doubt that running back Jerome Harrison and linebacker D'Qwell Jackson arrived with giant chips on their shoulders to prove wrong disbelievers in them.
* In a one-on-one blocking drill, Jackson knocked 250-pound back Peyton Hillis off his feet. The hit was roundly cheered by fans and defensive teammates.
* Linebacker Matt Roth is now listed at 275 pounds, and that looks accurate. Word is that coaches want him a lot lower than that.
* Rookie running back Montario Hardesty was not on the field the entire practice. One source said that Hardesty was working out inside. Team PR officials deferred to coach Eric Mangini to explain his absence.
* Other players not on PUP who did not participate included offensive linemen Tony Pashos, Paul Fanaika and Scott Kooistra.
* Tight end Evan Moore was everywhere snagging passes from each quarterback. Quite a busy session for him. He wasn't happy about one drop in a one-on-one drill, but he more than made up for it throughout the practice.
* Seneca Wallace made two "frozen rope" throws on consecutive deep sideline outs. One was from the pocket and one was sauntering to his right. Wallace has the best arm among the quarterbacks.
* After the post-practice interviews, Mary Kay Cabot reported that No. 1 pick Joe Haden agreed to contract terms.
* When the No. 1 defense lined up, rookie T.J. Ward joined Abram Elam as the starting safeties.
* The starting wideouts were Mohamed Massaquoi and Brian Robiskie. Floyd Womack was at right guard and, with Pashos out, John St. Clair at right tackle.
