Ursuline will join Ashland, Central State, Findlay, Lake Erie College, Tiffin and Urbana as Ohio schools in Division II.

Ursuline College has had its membership application for NCAA Division II status approved.

Ursuline, an NAIA affiliate located in Pepper Pike, this fall will begin the transition process, which usually takes three years. The Arrows could become a full NCAA member in their fourth year of compliance, which would be 2013-14.

Upon becoming a full member, Ursuline will join Ashland, Central State, Findlay, Lake Erie College, Tiffin and Urbana as Ohio schools in Division II. Notre Dame College in South Euclid also is in the process of joining Division II.

FSU, NCAA must pay: Florida State and the NCAA are paying $325,000 in legal fees to compensate the attorneys of news media companies that sued to force the release of documents in the Seminoles' academic cheating scandal.

The records were part of an NCAA investigation that eventually implicated 61 athletes and stripped the school of victories in 10 men's and women's sports.

Clemson inquiry: Clemson Athletic Director Terry Don Phillips said the NCAA was on the Tigers' campus this week to talk with two members of the football team.

Phillips issued a statement Friday but did not say what the inquiry was about. Phillips did not identify the athletes, but says Clemson is cooperating fully and that the school does not have any reason for concern.

Hill back at KSU: Matt Hill will return to the Kent State wrestling staff for the 2010-11 season as a full-time assistant coach. A three-time NCAA qualifier at Edinboro, Hill served as a graduate assistant at KSU from 2007-09. KSU opens its season Nov. 6 in Salem, Va., with dual meets against Iowa State and Chattanooga.

B-W greats honored: The Lake County Captains honored three Baldwin-Wallace greats before their July 23 game as part of their Cleveland Sports History Night. Recently retired baseball coach Bob Fisher, who won 700 career games in 42 seasons at B-W, threw out the first pitch. Four-time Olympic gold medalist Harrison Dillard (Class of 1949) and standout track captain Ted Theodore (1951) also were honored.

B-W on TV: Baldwin-Wallace will have six football games and a men's and women's soccer doubleheader shown this fall on SportsTime Ohio. The televised football games are against Wooster (Sept. 2), Heidelberg (Sept. 18), Marietta (Oct. 2), Otterbein (Oct. 9), Ohio Northern (Oct. 16) and John Carroll (Nov. 13). The soccer doubleheader is against Muskingum (Oct. 30).
