Columbus-based American Signature and James signed an agreement in February.
American Signature will most certainly deliver its line of LeBron James' children's furniture better than the basketball player delivered on some of his promises to Cleveland Cavaliers fans.
Darren Rovell of CNBC.com reports that Columbus-based American Signature -- which operates under the brand name Value City Furniture in the Cleveland area -- will go ahead with its plans this fall to begin selling children's furniture items inspired by James.
James left the Cavaliers on July 8 as a free agent and signed with the Miami Heat.
American Signature and James reached an agreement in February. Jonathan Schottenstein is the chief operating officer of American Signature. James and the Schottenstein family have developed a relationship in recent years. Ohio State's men's and women's basketball teams and state high school basketball tournaments are played at the Value City Arena at The Jerome Schottenstein Center, which is named after Jonathan's grandfather.
Rovell writes:
"Our relationship with LeBron has not changed,” Jonathan Schottenstein, chief operating officer of American Signature, said in a statement provided to CNBC. “The youth collection by LeBron James focuses on his commitment and relationship with America's youth. We are looking forward to this introduction in the Fall.”
American Signature is a private furniture company based in Columbus, Ohio. The company has 13 of its 125 locations that are managed under the brand name Value City Furniture within a 100-mile radius of Cleveland.
James’ name doesn’t have much value there any more and, at least for now, he isn’t thought of as highly in the other cities he didn’t go to. The company has 14 Value City locations within 100 miles of Chicago and six American Signature stores within a 100 miles of Manhattan.
